Dodgers win, Angels lose

James Loney's only good swing of the night was a grand slam that put the Dodgers ahead to stay. They beat the Cubs 7-2, with solo home runs from Manny and Russell Martin. Each of the three previous times the Dodgers won on the road to open the post-season, they reached the World Series. At the start of tonight's game, the Dodgers' and Cubs' lifetime series was tied at 1,012 wins apiece.

The Angels lost 4-1 on a home run by the Red Sox' replacement for Manny, Jason Bay.
