For all I know this was in the works before San Francisco Mayor (and potential 2010 rival for Governor) Gavin Newsom got all YouTube with his state of the city address. But now comes word that Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is looking for a New Media Director. Bunch of other jobs in the press office too, per this email making the rounds of Democrats.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has openings in his office of Communications and is looking for talented people with a passion for politics and a strong work ethic. The Office of Communications operates in a fast pace, high energy environment serving a dynamic mayor who has set a bold agenda around reforming public schools, investing in the green economy and building a first rate transportation system in Los Angeles. If you are interested in applying for one of the positions described below, please send your resume and cover letter to mayor.press@lacity.org.

Press Secretary: Primary spokesperson on designated issues, pitching stories and overseeing all aspects of press conferences. Work with Deputy Mayor in developing long-term message and strategy. Strong writing skills needed.

Website and New Media Director: Design, manage and update website content. Develop long-term strategy for using new-media tools to organize residents and support the overall communications strategy.

Press Aide: Support press secretaries in planning and advancing press events. Draft releases and briefing materials. Liaison to community media. Clip morning media coverage and general office support. Strong writing skills needed.

Administrative Assistant: Provide administrative support for the Deputy Mayor and the Communications Office. Prepare schedule, answer phones, monitor e-mails and manage contact database. Strong writing skills, attention to detail and an interest in politics needed.
