Villaraigosa buys in Beachwood Canyon for $2.5 million

Former mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has closed escrow on $2.5 million home on Creston Drive in the Hollywood Hills. The sale was reported by the LA Times Hot Property column, which doesn't get into the obvious question: How does a politician who left office in 2013 with his friends saying he had no assets to his name buy a $2.5 million home? That's a big down payment or a big mortgage or both. Villaraigosa has had some consulting gigs and gets a public pension previously reported as about $97,000 a year. Last month he announced he would not be running for U.S. Senate next year, and speculation is that he will look at running for governor in 2018.

Creston-Dr-ext.jpgThe street is one ridge west of North Beachwood Drive. The 3-bedroom, 4-bath contemporary home has 3,600 square feet and views of the city and the Hollywood sign — "300% views," the real estate listing says. LA Weekly says Villaraigosa bought the home, built in 1977, from Vance Lorenzini, "a music video producer who won MTV Video Music Awards for art direction in Madonna's 'Express Yourself' and Aerosmith's 'Livin' on the Edge.'"

The listing agent made a video of the property showing the inside and the views:
