James Whitmore, actor was 87

WhitmoreThe Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor died today at home in Malibu. He had been diagnosed with lung cancer a week before Thanksgiving, said his son Steve Whitmore, a Los Angeles County sheriff's official. Whitmore had success on Broadway before coming to Hollywood in 1949. Whitmore was nominated for the best actor Oscar for his depiction of Harry Truman in 1975's "Give 'em Hell, Harry!" and also was noted for his one-man shows on the lives of Will Rogers and Theodore Roosevelt. His latest credit was for a 2007 episode of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." LAT, IMDb
