Nick Adenhart, Angels pitcher, killed in crash

The rookie started last night, then was among three people in a Mitsubishi who died when a red-light runner hit the car in Fullerton. Adenhart, who was 22, threw six shutout innings in a no-decision last night at Anaheim. It was his fourth lifetime start and he had a record of 1-0. LAT, MLB.com

This will revive talk of the Angels' string of misfortune through the years. In 1972, infielder Chico Ruiz died in a car accident. In 1974, rookie pitcher Bruce Heinbechner died in a spring training car accident. Shortstop Mike Miley was killed in a car accident in 1977, and the following year star outfielder Lyman Bostock was shot and killed during the season while in Gary, Indiana. In addition, pitcher Minnie Rojas was paralyzed in a 1968 car accident, rookie pitcher Dick Wantz died of a brain tumor in 1965 and former catcher Ed Kirkpatrick was paralyzed in a 1981 crash.
