A few minutes ago, at 6:30, Mayor Villaraigosa's Twitter feed came alive:

villaraigosa Today I announced that I will not be running for gov of CA. LA needs a leader who is 100% focused on the tremendous challenges we face.

It landed five hours after he broke the news on CNN — four hours after Lu Parker offered a cryptic, possibly unrelated comment on her Twitter feed. * Update: Oops, and 13 minutes later, the rest of his thought:

I'm truly humbled that the city I love elected me to a 2nd term, and I intend to lead LA out of the worst crisis since the Great Depression.

Not exactly textbook use of the social media tool in such vogue internationally this week. In contrast, Gov. Schwarzenegger (or his designated thumbs) has been posting live from events today, including a tweet about chatting backstage with Matthew McConaughey after a speech.
