Wildfire forcing evacuation of the Getty

1cGettySmoke.jpgThe Getty Museum is being evacuated down through Brentwood as a precaution due to a fire burning in brush a ridge or two to the north in Sepulevda Pass. Damn impressive smoke plume towering over the Westside right now. Channel 5 and now Channel 9 (as of 2 p.m.) are on live. Mount St. Mary's College is also being evacuated.

From Getty spokeswoman Julie Jaskol:

The Getty Center is currently closed, due to a nearby brushfire. LAPD and LAFD are on site, and visitors and staff are being evacuated. There's no immediate danger to the Getty Center, its grounds or collections, or anyone on site. The Getty Center will remain closed until further notice. The Getty Villa is unaffected.

Television shows visitors, and I presume staff, lined up to get off the hill at the Getty, and a steady stream of cars taking the escape route south into Brentwood.
