The Angels staged a Dodgers-like 9th-inning, two-out rally against Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon and won today 7-6. Vladimir Guerrero had the key hit, then closer Brian Fuentes shut down Boston in the bottom of the inning. That finishes a sweep of the first round; next the Angels will play either the Yankees in New York or at home against the Minnesota Twins. The Dodgers open their next round at home against the winner of the Phillies-Rockies series, probably on Thursday.

T.J. Simers: The Dodgers confirmed to the Times columnist that Charles Steinberg, hired in 2007 (from the Red Sox) as executive vice president for public relations and marketing, has "permission to entertain offers from other Major League Baseball clubs and he is currently doing so." Steinberg is the former Orioles stats guy and team dentist who left Boston in a dispute with other front office officials. Now the same here, it appears.
