Howard Zinn, author and activist was 87

The playwright and author of "A People's History of the United States" had been scheduled to appear Feb. 4 at the Santa Monica Museum of Art and introduce his new documentary, "The People Speak," produced by Zinn, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and others.
