Internal split at Getty led to Brand's exit

getty-entrance-view.jpgMichael Brand's resignation as director of the Getty Museum was requested by Getty Trust president James Wood, according to L.A. Times reporter Jason Felch, citing unnamed sources. "Mounting disagreements made it clear they had different views of the museum's role, according to three sources with knowledge of the decision," Felch reports in Saturday's paper. The split reflects ongoing governance tensions that the story explores. Felch, by the way, co-authored a forthcoming book on the Getty, "Chasing Aphrodite: The Decline and Fall of the World’s Richest Museum," with former Times reporter Ralph Frammolino.
