Morning Buzz: Friday 2.5.10

Sure glad there's nothing suspicious about the latest Charlie Sheen news...plus more amusing reaction to the Carly Fiorina demon sheep ad, doubts about the mayor's pledge to find jobs for 360 city workers, and the Expo Line to Santa Monica passes a big hurdle.

  • Nope, nothing suspicious about this: Charlie Sheen's car was found upside down in a ravine off Mulholland Drive, with no evidence that anyone was in the car when it crashed, and he reported it stolen about 5:15 a.m. this morning "after the actor left it in the open garage with the keys inside." LAT, AP
  • Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, the other Republican considering a run against Sen. Barbara Boxer, reacted to Carly Fiorina's hit video on Tom Campbell by forming the Society for the Eradication of Demon Sheep from our Political Discourse.
Plus: KFI's John and Ken use Devore to ambush Fiorina. LAT
  • Fiorina's demon sheep video has "the most head-scratching narrative since “Mulholland Drive.'” CalBuzz
  • Meg Whitman's latest ad refers to “the 30 years that I have lived in California.” Except that she hasn't. LAT, Bee
  • Jerry Brown's office didn't violate state law when an employee surreptitiously recorded conversations between officials and reporters, Alameda County prosecutors have concluded. Bee
  • The airport and port departments only have about 49 open positions that are funded, nowhere close to handling Mayor Villaraigosa's vow that 360 city workers targeted for layoff could find jobs. Breeze
  • The MTA board approved the Expo Line extension from Culver City to Santa Monica. LAT
  • The Association of Deputy District Attorneys in Los Angeles endorsed John Eastman for attorney general, not their boss Steve Cooley. Examiner.com
  • Actress Brittany Murphy died accidentally of "community-acquired pneumonia," with contributing factors of "iron deficiency anemia" and "multiple drug intoxication," the L.A. coroner's office determined. LAT
  • Mayor Villaraigosa appointed former Court of Appeal Justice Candace Cooper to the Measure R Independent Taxpayers Oversight Committee.
