In defense of the second, silent n

The L.A. Times got it wrong. The Dodgers' own website did too — misspelling the name of farmhand Jamie Hoffmann. Notice the two n's at the end of his name? New LA Observed contributor Bob Timmermann did, but then he would. He posts at Native Intelligence:

Typos like this are honest mistakes, although if you have a surname like mine (see above if you forgotten), it is all too common. Those of us with German names often get cheated out of our second n.
