Ferber, the Hollywood Bowl's longtime production supervisor and special events manager, provided the voice that greeted concert-goers: "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Hollywood Bowl." He died March 14 of injuries sustained in a fall, the Los Angeles Philharmonic announced. Ferber worked at the Bowl as a teenager, graduated from Hollywood High School on the stage, and not long after getting a degree from UCLA began working there again. His affiliation spanned 45 years. Valerie Nelson's obituary in the L.A. Times details some intricate steps Ferber took to discourage aircraft from flying over the Bowl, including bringing air traffic controllers to a concert "so they could understand the problem."
