Freebies came to the mayor tonight

sabrina-in-the-heights.jpgGetty House, Mayor Villaraigosa's official residence in Windsor Square, played host tonight to a party for the cast of "In the Heights," the touring Tony winner for best musical on Broadway that's now playing at the Pantages. "I guess his new mo is...just having the events come to him," says a wag who emailed me. One of the guests posted on Facebook that it's "L.A.'s coolest new play," which I guess it is, though he got the name a little wrong and purists might object to calling a musical a play. In any case, fans are apparently jazzed that creator Lin-Manuel Miranda reprises the lead role of Usnavi in the touring production. "In the Heights" is at the Pantages through July 25. As it happens, I'm going tonight.
