Zac Sunderland speaks, but not parents

A family spokesman did most of the talking at today's briefing in Thousand Oaks about Abby Sunderland, who is sending distress signals from the south Indian Ocean. The 16-year-old's parents did not appear, but her brother Zac came out and said she has the sailing skills and the right equipment to survive. She's in a part of the ocean with high waves and winds, and if she is in the water the temperature is about 55 degrees. It's 2,000 miles from both Africa and Australia. A Qantas jetliner will be attempting a visual location within hours, while the closest boat for a potential rescue — a French fishing vessel — is speeding in her direction but remains two days away.
