  • The feds officially designated the Los Angeles River as a navigable waterway, which means more protections are available for the river and its feeders. AP, LAT, KPCC News
  • Sen. Barbara Boxer's job performance ratings are way down, but she retains a slight lead over challenger Carly Fiorina, the Field Poll found. Bee
  • Meg Whitman has put up a Spanish-language billboard saying she would have opposed Proposition 187 and is against the new Arizona immigration law. SF Chronicle
  • Rand's Drug Policy Research Center says that legalizing pot in California would likely lower prices, increase use and attract "drug tourism," but said revenue promises and other predictions are hard to trust: "No government has legalized the production and distribution of marijuana for general use...So there is little evidence on which to base any predictions about how this might work in California."
