Mayor Villaraigosa just came back from a night on the town with LAPD Chief Charlie Beck. The mayor's twitter account chirped a report:

Just finished up a ride-along with Chief Beck, who knows the streets of South LA better than anyone.

I'm sure Beck knows his old command turf well. But really, anyone?

The mayor also posted a follow-up sentiment that's less likely to insult:

We visited the 77th St, SWest, and SEast divisions. A quiet night out there, thanks to the brave men and women of the South Bureau.
