Mark had the latest circulation drop at the Los Angeles Times (and some spin from Publisher Eddy Hartenstein) this morning at LA Biz Observed. Now the Daily News has posted a story saying its circ edged up both Sunday (3.9%) and daily (0.14%.) That does buck the industry trend, as they say in the story, but the overall numbers are nothing to cheer about. The Daily News' Sunday circulation sits at 97,000; the daily average is 89,093. I'm guessing those are like 1960s numbers for the DN's predecessor the Valley News & Green Sheet, maybe 1950s or even 40s. The story says across the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, total Sunday circulation rose about 1 percent to nearly 428,100. That's for nine newspapers in and around Los Angeles. The LAT's Sunday circulation is still over 900,000, but just barely above 600,000 on weekdays.
