Giants pitcher Barry Zito in WeHo car accident

Zito, who has a home in the Hollywood Hills, was taken to Cedars-Sinai after a two-car crash tonight near Sunset Blvd. and Sunset Plaza Drive. He was released from the hospital. The defending world champion San Francisco Giants are in town to open the baseball season tomorrow at Dodger Stadium. Zito was scheduled to pitch the Giants' fourth game on Sunday, says the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman. Hat tip: Dodger Thoughts on Twitter.

Dodgers opener note: Nettie Berkson will miss her first opener in 53 years, notes MLB.com's Ken Gurnick. She is 95 after all.
