Ruby, L.A. Zoo's former elephant, dies

ruby-elephant-lazoo.jpgThe 50-year-old African elephant lived at the Los Angeles Zoo for about 20 years, and was one of the oldest elephants in captivity. Her living conditions in Los Angeles became a source of controversy, and in 2007 Ruby was moved to the Performing Animal Welfare Society Elephant Sanctuary in San Andreas, where she died on Tuesday. A necropsy will be performed at UC Davis.
