Monday spring break notes

I'll be out and about on the Central Coast for a few days. Posting will be more erratic. I won't be doing a full Morning Buzz all week, but I highly recommend Mark's daily take on the morning headlines at LA Biz Observed.

  • Style editor Laurie Pike and Los Angeles magazine have parted ways. She's headed to Paris to tend to her creation, The Paris Blog, and pursue other projects.
  • BizFed says the Bernard Parks reelection campaign was a trial run for a bigger role in the 2013 race for mayor. Also in Rick Orlov's Tipoffs: Councilman Zine swaps committee assignments to position himself to run for Controller.
  • George Skelton has had enough of state officials abusing the word drought.
  • The Downtown News' The 42 Most Powerful People in Downtown leads with AEG's Tim Leiweke, just ahead of Eli Broad, and with deputy mayor Austin Beutner ahead of the actual mayor.
  • Test runs of the Expo Line light rail start this morning with actual service from Downtown to La Cienega Boulevard as early as November. LAT, Metro
  • A fence has gone up and prep work is beginning on the Broad Museum site on that former parking lot south of Disney Hall.
  • Former City Council candidate Stephen Box announced he has morphed into lead organizer of Budget LA, "a grassroots campaign fighting to develop a sustainable budget for the city of Los Angeles."
  • The former Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation clinic in Sherman Oaks says it is investigating whether its records are the source of 12,000 porn performers' names, birth dates and stage names that appeared on a website.
  • Al Martinez praises the hospice team that helped his daughter Cindy pass on.
  • Photo coverage from the debut party for the Vivienne Westwood boutique. TradeTalk
  • Fox 11 reporter Gigi Graciette to her Twitter followers: "Everytime I come to @CVS Pharmacy I promise myself I'll never return + yet here I am. HORRIBLE service! Bad bad bad."
  • UCLA women's basketball coach Nikki Caldwell announced she is leaving to coach at Louisiana State, tripling her salary.
  • The nature preserve at the DWP's decommissioned Chatsworth Reservoir was opened to the public for the day on Sunday.
  • Libby Huebner and Laura Stegman are the new PR team for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.
