Off-duty LAPD officer killed in one-car freeway crash

Jose Diance-Cruz, 23, of the Southwest station was ejected from his truck after hitting the guardrail on the eastbound Ventura Freeway at Van Nuys Boulevard. He died later at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

Also: A Hollywood Division officer was arrested on suspicion of DUI after driving his motorcycle the wrong way through the Sepulveda Boulevard tunnel under LAX.

Better news: Officer Steve Jenkins was released from the hospital 19 days after being shot in the face during a bust in Sylmar.
