Hawthorne motor officer dies in crash during funeral procession

garton-bike.jpgAndrew Garton, 44, a seven-year veteran of the Hawthorne Police Department, was escorting the procession for Manhattan Beach officer Mark Vasquez when his motorcycle was involved in a crash with another officer. Garton was married with two sons, 12 and 7. El Segundo police Sgt. Rex Fowler, a 20-year department veteran, was injured in the crash. The CHP is investigating. The procession was southbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, heading from American Martyrs Roman Catholic Church in Manhattan Beach to Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, when the crash occurred near 227th Street in Torrance.
