George Ramos memorial draws a crowd *

I'm told there was a packed house last night at American Legion Post 804 in East Los Angeles to honor the life of journalist George Ramos. City Council members Eric Garcetti and Jan Perry presented, former L.A. Times colleagues Patt Morrison and Frank Sotomayor also spoke, and USC journalism prof Felix Gutierrez was on the program along with some Vietnam vets who knew Ramos. Ramos died in July in Morro Bay. "It was great to see how respected he was by the Los Angeles community and beyond," wrote a blogger who attended.

* Added: A video tribute to Ramos.

Add Gutierrez: Last weekend he won the Lionel C. Barrow Jr. Award for Distinguished Achievement in Diversity Research and Education.
