LAPD officer shot in South L.A.

A Los Angeles Police Department officer was hit at least three times after stopping several pedestrians about 2:45 p.m. on south Western Avenue near 66th Street, between Gage and Florence avenues. The officer, whose name has not been released, is at the hospital and is expected to survive. Two bullets hit his protective vest and a third shattered his wrist, the L.A. Times reports.

In all 12-15 shots were fired at officers, according to the LAPD.
