Sperm whale spotted feeding off coast

sperm-whale-fb.jpgWhale-watchers on board a Redondo Beach boat were off Palos Verdes Peninsula on Monday when they got an unusual treat for these waters. They saw a 45-55 foot sperm whale logging on the surface, then it showed its fluke and dove for 29 minutes before coming back up to breathe. "I am still on a whale high. I am barely able to talk I am so giddy!," Natalie Booth-Massey said on Facebook per outdoors writer Pete Thomas. This sperm whale has been photographed here before, Thomas says, and he speculates it's foraging in Redondo Canyon, an undersea chasm "said to be teeming with market-sized squid."
