KNBC adds Latina reporter from New York

Lolita-Lopez.jpgLolita Lopez, a Harvard graduate and former sports anchor and reporter at WPIX in New York, starts Oct. 10 as a general assignment reporter here at KNBC Channel 4. She left WPIX earlier this year after the station cut back on sports and moved her to the general news staff, the New York Daily News says. Lopez was there for a decade and had previously worked at Court TV. "Lolita is a reporter with great versatility and passion," Vickie Burns, the VP for news at KNBC, said in a release. "From immigration issues and politics, to sports and lifestyle stories, Lolita is a skilled journalist who effectively can cover a broad spectrum of news beats."

Earlier this summer, Latino media organizations criticized KNBC for transferring or releasing Latinos on the station's news staff.

Unrelated media note: Los Angeles Times Sacramento bureau reporter Shane Goldmacher is leaving to be a congressional correspondent for the National Journal, per Gorkana. He starts Nov. 1.
