Jerry Brown responded to the UC Davis pepper spray incident for the first time and asked a statewide law enforcement commission to review guidelines for crowd control and "without delay" make "whatever changes are necessary to ensure compliance with First and Fourth Amendment protections against excessive force." LAPD chief Charlie Beck says about 150 tents have left Occupy LA but he conceded that arrests will probably be necessary to complete the closing down of the camp. LAT, DN

Beck tweeted after Monday's peaceful encounter with Occupy: "Thank you to the men/women of the LAPD. You've shown true professionalism & restraint during the past several hours-So proud 2 B your Chief!"
