Student gunman shot at UC Berkeley dies

A 32-year-old student shot Tuesday by UC Berkeley police after he brandished a handgun in a computer lab has died at a hospital. Christopher Nathen Elliot Travis was an undergraduate who recently transferred to Berkeley, officials said. He was shot after threatening with the loaded gun inside the Haas School of Business, apparently unrelated to campus protests by students and Occupy members.

On campus today: About 100 protesters were gathered on the steps of UC Berkeley's Sproul Hall after pitching tents and spending the night on the administration building's stairs, the San Francisco Chronicle says.
