Second Miramonte teacher arrested

Martin Springer, who lives in Alhambra, was arrested by sheriff's detectives this morning after a short investigation. He was booked on suspicion of lewd activity with children and bail was set at $2 million. He had been under surveillance since Thursday, following allegations prompted by the arrest of former Miramonte Elementary School teacher Martin Berndt earlier this week.

The allegations against Springer "involve two girls who were allegedly fondled in the classroom at Miramonte school by Suspect Springer," the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a release. "They were approximately 7-years old at the time of the incidents, which were alleged to have occurred during the past three years. The investigation is continuing."
