Library roofing project could affect you

The Central Library is getting a three-month rooflift starting today — and the LAPL website is warning patrons, staff and Downtowners that "traffic WILL be affected during this time."

The work is expected to last at least 3 months (weather permitting) and will occur Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm....The south curb lane of 5th St. will be closed during the construction hours (7:00 am to 4:00 pm) until the project is completed.

Beginning 03-19-12, on Mondays & Tuesdays, the 3 lanes from the south side curb of 5th Street will be closed during the construction hours (7:00 am to 4:00 pm). This will cause a major back up of traffic on 5th Street & all of the surrounding streets within the vicinity of the Central Library.

5th Street already backs up as thousands of commuters head for the Harbor Freeway and points west of the freeway. So good luck with that.
