Ed Savko, proprietor of the Rock Store was 86

the-rock-store.jpgSavko bought a small grocery on the twisty part of Mulholland Highway in the Santa Monicas west of the San Fernando Valley in 1961. He would park his Harley-Davidson out front, other bikers would see it, and they began stopping in. The late actor Steve McQueen and other celebrities fed the buzz, and the Rock Store in unincorporated Cornell has now been a weekend haven for motorcyclists for decades. Savko died April 2. His family continues to run the store; Vern, his wife, survives Savko.

The Daily News covered a memorial reception at the store on Monday.
