Today in wildlife: Glendale bear shipped out, shark, whale

glendale-bear-kabc.jpgThe meatball-loving Glendale bear was captured overnight by state Fish and Game using a trap baited with bacon and honey. The ruse worked at about 4 a.m. Wednesday in the La Crescenta area. The 400-pound male was moved during the day to an animal sanctuary in Alpine in San Diego County, after two previous relocations into the Angeles National Forest did not keep the bear away from homes.

"As a wildlife agency our goal is always to keep animals wild but in this case the best interest of the bear was to capture and relocate him to a safe and secure facility," said Fish and Game spokesman Andrew Hughan.

He may be headed ultimately to a facility in Colorado.

Also: A young white shark and a humpback whale were videotaped off the coast of Orange County. Hat tip to Pete Thomas' outdoors website.
