Kate Linthicum of the LAT's other life (video)

basement+babies++photo+by+A+Dol.jpgLos Angeles Times City Hall reporter Kate Linthicum has been deep into coverage of the races for mayor et al for months. She also finds time to pursue her after-hours gig as the vocalist and keyboard player for Basement Babies, a band that looks to be based around Echo Park, where she lives. Their new video for "Avenues" has lots of scenes of the band members along Sunset Boulevard and on the Laveta Terrace steps.

"It's not too hard to juggle both," she tells me. "I'm lucky to have really understanding bandmates who don't groan when a story makes me late for practice or I ask them to please stop playing their instruments for a minute because a campaign consultant is calling."
