Oct. 2, 1971: Soul Train debuts from LA (video)

By Kevin Roderick | October 2, 2013 6:58 PM

soul-train-dancers.jpgAfter starting in Chicago, Don Cornelius migrated "Soul Train" to Los Angeles and national syndication. This clip of Soul Train dancers moving to the theme from "Shaft" looks to be from later that month, Oct. 23, 1971, based on the mention of guests Freda Payne and the Staple Singers. Here's a book excerpt from Ebony. Hat tip: @LAHistory.
