Los Angeles typewriter collector Steve Soboroff, the president of the city's police commission, last week added Shirley Temple's Underwood to his collection. That makes 32 machines in the Soboroff collection, which travels to raise money for journalism scholarships and was recently on exhibit at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills.

Some of his others include the typewriters used by Ray Bradbury, Truman Capote, Marlene Dietrich and Harold Robbins.
