At the National Magazine Awards held Monday in New York, Buzzfeed News reporters Jessica Garrison and Ken Bensinger and editor Jeremy Singer-Vine won in the public service category. The New American Slavery investigated abuse of foreign workers in the U.S. and All You Americans Are Fired followed up with a look at American workers who lose out because of H2 visa abuse. Garrison, who is based in San Francisco now, and Bensinger, in Buzzfeed's LA office, are both former investigative reporters at the Los Angeles Times. Garrison also covered City Hall for awhile. Singer-Vine is a New York-based data editor for Buzzfeed. A third story in their series looked at a man who places foreign workers in American jobs.

Other Ellies went to The Hollywood Reporter for general excellence in the special interest category and The California Sunday Magazine for photography. The Atlantic received the magazine of the year award. All winners.
