Paul Colford, the New York Daily News media writer, says newsrom buzz at the New York Times has it that Dean Baquet turned down an overture to leave Los Angeles. The L.A. Times managing editor supposedly met with NYT publisher Arthur Sulzberger last weekend in California to talk about the top job. Colford on Baquet's future at the LAT: "He's expected to be the eventual successor to editor John Carroll, 61." (Via Romenesko)

Why should he pull up roots and relocate, when the LAT already covers New York City more thoroughly than it does L.A.?
Although his NOT leaving indicates that, contrary to appearances, not all Times writers and editors wish they were living in the Apple.
