Chasing Arianna
Matt Welch, who appears to be having more fun than any magazine writer-editor should in his stint at Reason, goes to Lexis and catches Arianna Huffington having it both ways on Proposition 187.
Update Tuesday, 2:01 a.m.: Blogger Mark A.R. Kleiman loathes Huffington but elaborately explains here why he doesn't think Welch got the goods.

Again the silly myth (see the second link) that Republicans need the Hispanic vote to win. Based on the people I know, Republicans lose far more white votes than they gain from Hispanics by such ethnic pandering as talking soft on illegal immigration, supporting driver's licenses for illegal immigrants, favoring acceptance of foreign issued ID cards for illegal immigrants, in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
I see numerous articles talking about the interests of Hispanics; I'm still waiting to see one that talks about the interests of white voters. When I asked once for such a reference, a reporter gave me a link to a survey that asked whites how they felt about becoming a minority. The sad thing is, I don't think he appreciated the irony.
Kleiman tacked an addendum on his post.
