A new Los Angeles literary event, "Our Favorite Writers," begins tonight with Jeffrey Eugenides, author of the The Virgin Suicides. He will read and talk with Mona Simpson, the author and UCLA professor who is behind the series, along with the UCLA English Department and The Atlantic Monthly. November's featured authors are Alice McDermott and Peter Carey, followed by Tobias Wolff and, next April, a conversation between Martin Amis and Christopher Hitchens. Scott Timberg had a story on the series in Friday's L.A. Times, and CaliforniaAuthors.com has a blurb. Ticket info for tonight's event is at UCLA Live.
