Bill Shoemaker dies at 72

The leading jockey in horse racing history rode 40,000 times, most of them here at Southern California tracks. He was paralyzed in at 59 in a one-car accident after drinking a couple of beers in Arcadia. He lived in San Marino. (NYT, AP via Daily News)
