Arnold's press conference
The media scene, from AP and Gary Delsohn in the Sacramento Bee. It was L.A. Times staffer Jeff Rabin who Schwarzenegger complimented as "this gentleman with the nice-looking beard and with the handsome glasses." (The LAT media story by Hilary E. MacGregor emphasizes Japanese interest in the governor.)
Rough and Tumble has the round-up of Arnold coverage, including a San Francisco Chronicle story that the new governor has raised $1.3 million in campaign funds -- some from special interests -- since his election.

And how long will this honeymoon with the press last? According to Bill Buzenberg in an op-ed in the Minneapolis Star Tribune http://www.startribune.com/stories/562/4217920.html not long, if one can look at Jesse Ventura for examples:
Let's face it, politics with steroids is fun to watch. Clearly, the news media and the entertainment industry won't let you ignore this glossy political theater even if you want to. Reporters will fall all over each other to record Arnold's every move as governor. Be prepared for saturation coverage, for politics as pageant. State government will be only a backdrop. The star of the show will have his every word recorded and parsed. The media will find profound thoughts in every scripted remark.
But the media love affair won't last. It didn't last in Minnesota. Celebrities don't want hard questions from a scrappy statehouse press corps. Ventura began to disparage the media soon after taking office, even as he used it to get his message out and magnify his image. The press became "jackals" to Jesse; Arnold has already used the term "predators."
