Lawbreakers on Temple Street

It's tough being a reporter trying to cover the L.A. County Board of Supervisors because so much of the people's business takes place out of view. The LA Weekly's Robert Greene shows some of the ways that the board and its lawyers make sure things stay that way. (Hint: When you break the law, it's easy to keep things quiet.)

Also in the Weekly: Steven Mikulan on the prosecution and incarceration of Tommy Chong, which began with a midnight swarm on his Pacific Palisades home; Nikki Finke on the Disney flap; and Marc Cooper has the cover on the death toll of Operation Gatekeeper along the border.

Chong is popular this week: the cover story by Dean Kuipers in CityBeat is about the case. Also in CityBeat, Cathy Seipp's media column takes on Paris Hilton and the "Simple Life."

Program note: In fact Chong is so popular this week that both Mikulan and Kuipers will be on "Deadline L.A." with Barbara Osborn on Sunday to compare notes. That's 1 p.m. on KPFK 90.7.
