Damn fine day in Santa Monica

Warm Santa Anas - mellow beach weather - in January. So clear that Catalina Island looked to be hovering in the bay, instead of 26 miles (or so) out. In the other direction, snow on Mt. Baldy. What's not to like.

Plus the banner headline on the Santa Monica Daily Press: Crime levels reach 40-year low in SM

"It's like it's back in 1960," police chief James T. Butts said. Murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault down 62% over the last decade.

Damn fine day in West Hollywood/Hollywood (yesterday). "It's getting better all the time . . . . better, better, better!" Those glorious mountain views are one of L.A.'s curiously best kept secrets . . . .

"It's like it's back in 1960," said police chief James T. Butts, displaying a subtle twitch as his mind suddenly raced back to childhood and those traumatic schoolyard taunts he endured due to his unfortunate family name.
