LAVoice.org, a new site

LAVoice.org is a new community site made up of, says the FAQs, "ultra-local newsgatherers, pundits and outspoken writers whose collective knowledge of their neighborhoods and the city at large far surpasses any information found in the mass media." In a posting yesterday, Mack Reed critiques LA.com and acknowledges he was a finalist for the editor's job.

The site explains further:

Let's face it: The mainstream L.A. media does a lousy job of covering the cities and communities that make up greater Los Angeles. LAVOICE.ORG aims to change that.

If you believe you're one of the best writers in your neighborhood, then speak out - post on LAvoice.org and give your home a voice.

Please inform Mr. Reed, candidate for some editing job, that the media are not singular.

Whoops. Corrected now. To paraphrase an old saw, a man who does all his own proofreading has a fool for an editor. Many thanks for pointing that out.

Kevin,
Call it what it is: The most pretentious piece of crap this side of what passes for L.A. Times local coverage.

FWIW, I emailed Mr. Castro asking him for details - constructive criticism on what was so wrong with this fledgling site that deserved that kind of slap. He couldn't cite any specifics, saying something to the effect of, "It was just a post I was reading at the time. I can't remember what it was."
