The future of the Magic Castle overlooking Hollywood is up in the air, according to a piece by Gary Shapiro in today's New York Sun. Longtime operator Milt Larsen is talking about walking away and opening a new "Castle" somewhere else after the building's owner brought in partners with plans to modernize the private club. Negotiations on a new lease for the Magic Castle (Larsen owns the name) have been stalled for 2½ years.

It's heart-breaking. This place is such a treasure to cherish and I just wouldn't want it to be modernized. There's a book about The Magic Castle available at the Los Angeles Public Library, Los Feliz branch
