Ron Fineman's On The Record says that Channel 2 aired tape of nude women celebrating Brazil's Carnival on the 6 a.m. news this past Wednesday. A per-diem writer and editor have been blamed and told they won't be hired any more, Fineman reports. On Thursday, says a Fineman source, the staffs at Channel 2 and 9 were given a memo saying that from now on, cameras in the field are to be turned off if people in the background threaten to do anything indecent.
Now there's a newsgathering strategy I admire. Turn off those cameras. Don't want to capture anything...objectionable! You know, the worst thing in the world isn't for a few people to see a few breasts on the news. I'm still waiting for Janet's #2.

I mean, seriously, which one's more damaging to see by young viewers?
Posted by: Mike at February 29, 2004 09:52 AMI'm trusting Channel 2 will follow the example they set after the Super Bowl and run the offending footage several times, for those of us who may have missed the opportunity to be scandalized by it.

"are to be turned off if people in the background threaten to do anything indecent."
thanks for that line. will resort to such a threat next time I am being bothered by the presence of the allmighty vultures and report on the effects. no, seriously, this could be an interesting strategy, for celeb court cases, don't you think?
