Publishers Lunch is amused by LAT baseball writer Ross Newhan's reference to Judith Regan (in a story today about ex-star Jose Canseco's book) as a "mansucript developer for HarperCollins." Quoting Fox News Channel, which added the former National Enquirer reporter and publisher of runaway bestsellers by Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stern as a TV personality last year:

Having already single-handedly expanded the reading populace of America by hundreds of millions, world-renowned book publisher Judith Regan...is the president and publisher of the Regan Company, where she is known for publishing best-selling, award-winning and controversial books from a wide range of authors...

Previously, she served as vice president and senior editor of Simon and Schuster.

In the Newhan story, Canseco claims his tell-all book will be out in September, but then admits not a word has been written and he has, as yet, no co-author. PL says don't expect a Canseco book before April 2005.
