Hubert Selby died often. But he always came back, smiling that beautiful smile of his, and those blue eyes of his so full of life. This time he will not be back...

I had a workshop in college with Selby. He was a very sweet and spiritual man with a childlike energy--surprising considering what he wrote about.

His style was unique. As a writing instructor he was insightful and encouraging. I am sad and will miss him.

Selby was a man of enormous talent -- his prose was Whitmanesque poetry. It's amazing more of his material hasn't been made into films.
