Pack it in, boys

Jason PhillipsThe Dodgers lost another game today and another player to injury. This time it's not a sore hamstring or three, a hurt finger, a blown elbow or even chondromalacia—and it's almost amusing. Kelly Wunsch, the pitcher who has apeared in the most games for the Dodgers this season, had just been waved into the game up in Colorado. He threw his last warmup toss in the bullpen, then landed wrong. Twisted ankle. He had to be helped into the clubhouse and replaced in the game without making a pitch. Unfortunately, Franquelis Osoria gave up a three-run homer, and the Dodgers lead (once 5-0) was history. Jason Phillips (pictured) sat this one out, so the lineup had five rookies in it and no one resembling a star. The team that opened the season 12-2 is now 15 games under .500 since then. Meanwhile, Cesar Izturis will miss the All-Star game with a hamstring strain, and his onetime buddy at second base, Alex Cora, was traded today to the Red Sox after a half-season with Cleveland. A tidbit of up news: Dodger Thoughts blogger Jon Weisman got some nice air time from guest host Ross Porter on AM 1540.

Also: Former Dodgers and Angels general manager Buzzie Bavasi gave a long interview to the website The Business of Baseball. He talks about Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Nolan Ryan, Walter O'Malley, etc.
